Get to know real Mexico. Start Here.
You’re Mexican?
People would ask me when I told them my name.
Followed by something like, I thought you were Black, Samoan, Hawaiian or something else.
I realized then that everyone has an image of what Mexicans “should” look like and depending on the region you’re from Mexicans look like Charros, Vaqueros, Tall light skinned, dark skinned Indios and everything in between.
Even I thought that was the case because almost everyone from my rancho was short, stocky, dark skinned, mustachioed vaqueros.
But as I met other Mexicans in the U.S, I realized there was no such thing as a typical Mexican.
Just like this corn we are all imperfect and distinct in size, shape color yet our imperfection is what makes Mexico unique and beautiful.
