The state of not being imprisoned or enslaved! Let’s talk about this one.
It’s great to live in a free country and see people from all walks of life exercising their unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I love it. It’s the way humanity should live.
It takes a mind shift and a slight shift in perspective, however, to see below the surface.
What Do I Mean?
Some of us walk around in real physical freedom but are shackled and enslaved in our minds. We are slaves to our erroneous beliefs and imaginary limitations we put on ourselves.
Why else would we work at jobs that we hate only to buy stuff we don’t need to impress people we don’t like.
We do it because we’re prisoners.
What?!
Many of us are prisoners to our job because of our love of college debt, consumerism, materialism, living above our means and keeping up with the Joneses.
We don’t ever question it because our belief is that it’s just the way free people live their lives. If it’s wrong why is everyone doing it? Great question and I don’t know the answer.
Let’s talk about a much bigger prison that holds even the most frugal minimalists.
Fear of The Unknown
We’re all afraid of something. But I’ve seen fear of the unknown keep most people from ever taking a step toward the calling they feel in their heart.
So they stay at a job that they hate, never travel to that beautiful country, never ask the girl out, never move to another city, never move to Mexico and absolutely never realize the person they could’ve been.
I’m still a prisoner in a sense but join me because I’m hatching a plan with other inmates to break free from this mental prison and live the life I’ve seen a million times while looking out the barred windows.
